How being consistent will lead to your success

I was working out at the gym today and I saw a gentleman named Jim Gallagher. Bill is in his 70’s and he has been working out for many years.  We usually chat when we see each other at the gym about working out and life in general. I noticed something about Jim. Jim has a very disciplined mindset. I asked him what he does to stay very healthy and fit at his age and he told me that he has been working out and eating healthy consistently for many years. He told me he comes to the gym everyday and records his workout routine and also records his strength gain frequently. I stood there for a second. I was thinking “wow I can relate to him well because I have the same philosophy for fitness and other areas of life.”

“Consistency and patience= Success and happiness”

I told Jim that I totally agree with him. I told him that this not only applies to fitness but owning a business or leading a company as well. The most successful entrepreneurs and people who are successful in the business field carry Jim’s attitude. It is funny how so many people try to overcomplicate life and think that in order to be successful there is some magic formula. Jim records his workout so that he can refer to it and think about how he should improve his workout the next day. He has been doing this everyday for so many years and it helps him increase his bench press. He told me that, “I keep a goal of increasing a couple of pounds on my bench press every month, I’m not in a hurry to get quick results.” I told him he had a good point.

Then I thought about all these “get rich quick” products and other quick fix products that are marketed to us daily on the internet and TV to convince us that life is easy and you can get better abs, more money, and happier relationships by taking a magic pill. Are you kidding me? I noticed that there are so many people that fall for these quick fixes and think that they will achieve their dream in a few days or weeks. No way!

Follow Jim’s routine not only in the gym but in other areas of your life;

  • If you want to be wealthy discipline yourself to control your spending, working efficiently, and improving by reflecting on your mistakes. Don’t look for a formula that can get you out of debt or get you rich quick.
  • If you want to get lean and fit you need to put your whole heart into working out and eat healthy. Don’t try to find a magic pill to solve your weight problems.
  • If you want more clients for your business pick up the phone and consistently try to reach people.

Do you see where I am getting at? Jim is very happy with what he has achieved in life and in the gym because he pushes himself to come to the gym everyday and workout. He told me that his discipline has made him happy in other areas of his life as well. He feels happy and optimistic every day.

Jim is a retired firefighter and is involved in the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program. He still runs marathons at age 74. Check out an article written about him in the San Francisco Examiner by clicking on the link below.

So all I have to say is this. Life isn’t easy,  you have to train yourself hard  every day. It’s all about what kind of mindset you carry in life. Follow Jim’s advice and be consistent in pursuing your goals. Don’t rush for quick results.

Don’t forget the fundamentals of life”
